Gina Blankenship Obituary

Gina Blankenship

July 23, 1976 - February 8, 2022

HOBART, IN - Gina Blankenship, 45 of Hobart Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1976 in Valparaiso, IN daughter of Teresa Kelly-Jones. In 2005, Gina married James Blankenship in Las Vegas, NV. Gina was a Paraprofessional for the School City of Hobart from 2011-2020 where she helped teach Special Education classes grades 1-5. Gina was a humanitarian and an advocate for people living with disabilities and special abilities. She was a dedicated supporter of the Hobart Humane Society, Autism Awareness, and the 21 Pineapples Shirt Company.

Surviving are her husband, James Blankenship; stepdaughter Rebecca (Travis) Beal; mother Teresa Kelly-Jones; brother and sister-in-law: Terry and Pennie Zimmerman; grandmother and grandfather: Marlene and John Kelly; aunt Kay Serles; cousins: Christa (Tommy) Wilson and Heather Serles; nephews: Logan and Griffin Zimmerman; granddaughters: Everly and Sage Beal, and furbabies: Ferris, Pita, and Kiedis.

Gina loved to spend time with her family. She was the World's Best fur-mama and just adored all animals. She enjoyed reading in her free time and was passionate about science and research, as she had a Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University. Gina absolutely loved anywhere there was sunshine and sand. The water was her happy place. Gina was an organ donor and wished to be cremated. The family will honor Gina's wishes and keep her memories close to their heart. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charitable organization of your choice on her behalf. She lived her life in service of others, despite the challenges she faced herself daily. Our fleshly hearts will miss her here on Earth, but we find comfort in knowing that she is doing cartwheels with Jesus and will never be in pain again.

Visitation will be held at REES FUNERAL HOME 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342 on Saturday, February 12, 2022, 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with her Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Binion officiating.

There are not enough words to express the loss of Gina. So very sorry to her family and friends. I was a coworker of hers for many years at Liberty. No matter if she didn't feel well or was in pain she tried so hard to make a difference in children's lives. We really got to now each other. We would talk about our family. Our grandchildren. She felt so blessed. We would exchange recipes for dinners. We would talk bout shopping for clothes . She loved fashion. Her pets she loved so much. We both wondered why we ate so many snacks at work. We would always be excited bout lunch. She was so good to the kids. She would bring them snacks and gifts for their bdays or holidays. Even the worst days she would make me laugh. She was such a kind and energetic friend. I am so blessed to of known her. May you rest in peace Gina. You will be missed but always in everyone's hearts.

I will never forget you, Miss Gina. You helped my daughter with encouragement and love through her Elementary years. Summer adores her and talks about her and all the times Miss Gina let her do her hair on Fridays. Thank you for being the voice she needed in those years when I could not be by her side. You were a Guardian Angel earthside. Summer loves you and we all send our biggest hugs to your family and friends
