James Lewandowski Obituary

JAMES M. LEWANDOWSKI "JIMMY" VALPARAISO, IN James M. Lewandowski, 59, of Valparaiso, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. Jimmy was born June 9, 1953 in Gary, IN to the late John and Jean Lewandowski. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Frank and sister- in-law Sandra; grandparents: Joseph and Anna Lewandowski, and Tom and Dorothy Smurdon; along with many loving aunts and uncles. Since 1977, Jimmy was a client of Opportunity Enterprises in Valparaiso. Prior to moving to Hebron, Jimmy was a member of the Lake County Association of Retarded Citizens (LCARC). For the past 21 years, Jimmy resided in the Sheffield Group Home in Valparaiso. The care and compassion of the Sheffield and OE staff through the years is to be commended. He was loved and well taken care of by his OE family, for which his family is most grateful. Jimmy is survived by his sisters: Sue (Rusty) Franzman and Nancy (Greg) Sheets, both of Hebron; brothers: Bob (Charlene) of Demotte and John (Steve) of Lafayette; seven nieces and nephews: Chad (Sara), Kate, Christopher, James (fiance Tera Pfortmiller), Jenna, Dylan, and Kara; great nephew, Brock; great niece, Ava; five uncles: Don, George, Art (Delores), David, and Terry Smurdon; four aunts: Angeline Price, Mary Lewandowski, Yolanda Smurdon, and Linda Smurdon; special cousins; June Sonaty and Cheryl Antricks; many loving cousins; and his Sheffield and OE Family. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre (two blocks east of Broadway) at 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chris Shrum officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Opportunity Enterprises (OE), 2801 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN. 46383.
