Jeanne Marren Obituary

WESTON, CT – Jeanne Frances Marren, nee Gillis, age 67, passed away September 16, 2025, after a short illness. Born in Massachusetts, Jeanne was raised in Griffith, IN and graduated from Griffith High School. She subsequently graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, with a degree in Journalism and a concentration in Advertising.

Her initial career in Advertising culminated with a position in the New York office of Young & Rubicam. Her work won acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, gold medals at the New York Film and TV Festival and advertising Clio awards. Following a relocation to Bermuda, Jeanne was inspired by the natural beauty of the island and began to channel her creative energy into a second career as an oil painter.

Upon her return to New York, she attended The National Academy School of Fine Arts in New York as well as a study abroad program in Florence, Italy.

She loved international travel and ventured from Borneo to Botswana and most places in between. Jeanne particularly enjoyed frequent trips to Italy where she drew inspiration from museums and particularly religious art in cathedrals and churches.

Jeanne also was a great animal lover and the property surrounding her art studio in Weston became an animal sanctuary of sorts. Animals were featured prominently in her work.

Jeanne is survived by her devoted husband and enthusiastic travel partner of 45 years, Daniel Marren, sisters Ellen Moore and Nancy (Robert) Hastings, and brother, Robert Gillis. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Denise (Paul) Tennola, Candace Marren, and brother-in-law Gregory (Cheryl) Marren and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mary Gillis and father-and mother-in-law, George and Harriet Marren.

The funeral Mass will be November 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. Family and friends may visit with the family before and after the funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal shelter or other wildlife charity.
