JO ANNE WINEY-BABCOCK CHESTERTON, IN
Jo Anne Winey-Babcock of Chesterton, IN, passed away Thursday, November 3rd, 2016. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 12, 1952 to Charles William and Shirley (Magnuson) Winey. Jo is survived by her husband, Gregory Babcock; sons, Paul (Nolita Stewart) of Indianapolis, IN, Erik (Lauren) of Aberdeen, Scotland and Mark Babcock of Chesterton; her mother, Shirley Winey of Chesterton; her brothers, Tim (Margo) Winey of Chesterton, and John (Lauralee) of Michigan City; her niece, Paige (Jason) Scheuer of Arvada, CO; her mother- in-law, Betty Babcock of Chesterton, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Winey; her nephew, Mitchell A. Winey and her father-in-law, Nelson Babcock. Jo was a member of the Chesterton High School class of 1970. She graduated from Indiana Central College with a Bachelor of Science degree and obtained her Master's degree in education from Indiana University. For three years she taught physical education in the Michigan City schools and for the following nine years she taught in the Duneland schools. She later joined her family's business and was presently co-owner of Winey Insurance Agency. Jo was a longtime member of the Chesterton United Methodist Church where she participated in the bell choir. She was a charter member of P.E.O. International, Chapter ED; Tri Kappa; board member of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, and past board member of the Duneland YMCA. When her sons were in school and participating in speech and debate, basketball and soccer, Jo was actively involved with the parents' Booster groups. She enjoyed golfing and traveling. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18th, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mitchell A.
