John C. Barr
John C. Barr, age 92, of Dyer, IN, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011. He is survived by his son, Stephen (Kimberly) Barr of Highland, IN; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Waddle of Munster, IN and Janet Barr of Jupiter, FL; two grandchildren: John G. and Emily Barr; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary D. Barr, in 1998; and daughter, Sarah, in 1981. Visitation will be Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 2:00-5:30 p.m. at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN with services at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Mr. Barr was born in New York City in 1919. He graduated from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania in 1940. John served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII as a pilot, won the Air Medal twice for hazardous flying in the Alaska-Aleutian Theater and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked as a Sales Engineer for Graver Tank Co. of East Chicago, IN and became Vice President of the company. Mr. Barr formed his own company as a Manufacturers Representative, providing heavy equipment to the refining and nuclear industries. He was also a member of Woodmar Country Club for 35 years. John was a loving father and a good friend to all who knew him. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area in his memory.

Dear Steve and John,
Please accept the deepest sympathies from our family to yours. What a great life and history. I know he was a great man and you were fortunate to have him for all of your years.
He certainly is now at peace and watching over you.

to the Barr Family sorry for your loss i remember Mr Mrs barr because they lived down the street from me in Brantwood my prayers go out to you at this time.

I remember fondly spending time as a teenager at the Barr home. Mr and Mrs. Barr were always so welcoming to Sarah's friends. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Barr family.
