John Carriveau Obituary

John D. Carriveau Indiana/Michigan John Dee Carriveau, age 48, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of Bad Axe, MI, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007 at St. Anthony Memorial. Mr. Carriveau was born April 3, 1958 in Bad Axe, MI to Joseph and Donelda (Smith) Carriveau. He was united in marriage on October 6, 1995 in Bad Axe, MI to his soulmate, Mary Meagher, who survives. Survivors also include one step-son, Kenneth (Sue) Rice of Bad Axe, MI; mother-in-law, Rose Meagher; two brothers: Terry (Sandy) Carriveau of Filion, MI and Thomas (Denise) Carriveau of Caseville, MI; one sister, Tammy (George) Taylor of Bad Axe, MI; two grandchildren: Katie and Janie; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Preceded in death by brother, Teddy Carriveau. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. EST at MacAlpine Chapel, 302 N. Hanselman Road, Bad Axe, MI with Rev. Robert Garrett officiating. Cremation is planned. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral chapel. Mr. Carriveau was an associate and supervising attorney with the Law Offices of Deppe & Mullen in Hobart, IN with his closest friend, Michael Deppe. He had a reputation for sincerity and integrity among his peers. He entered the law field to "help the little guys" who may not have had the means to do it on their own. John volunteered his time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), providing a voice for abused and neglected children in Porter County, IN. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, woodworking, hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and spending time with his extended family. He always enjoyed giving more than receiving and always passed out the gifts at Christmas. John will be forever missed by his loving wife, Mary, and all the people his life touched. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Porter County CASA Program, 6469 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368.

I can not believe 17 years have gone by. We were together 17 years and now it has been 17 years since you passed. There has to be something in those numbers! You were always such a gambling man.....I smile when I think of you and your sense of humor. You now have Eddie Goretski and Ed Doland with you (I hope). That was a surprise. I'm getting closer to coming home. Missing you every day!

Hello my Dear,

I am here again to share some thoughts. Although it's been 14 years it seems like only yesterday. I think about you everyday and miss you like crazy. When ever I see someone with a grey beard something tugs at my heart. Please continue to watch over all of us and may the right decisions be determined! Our grand daughters have grown so much and so fast. Please continue to be their guardian angel. Petunia has calmed down a (wee) bit and Calie is still doing well. Love you forever..... Mary

March 2, 2020

Hello again my Dear,

So many things come to mind. Has it really been 13 years today since you last winked at me. That wink was always your reassurance that all was well in our world! Or when we were in the car you'd give me a little pat on my leg to let me know you loved me so. I think of you everyday and miss you so much. Our new Petunia (hell-terror) is growing fast. She has a little of Jack (stubborn) and a lot of Molly in her. I could use a little help (if you know what I mean) making her listen. You now have Marie with you and that's some comfort. Thank you for watching over all of us. Eddie could use a special dose of guardian angel right now. Until we meet again all my love to you..... Mary, Petunia and Calie

Hello my dear!

Another year has come and gone. I can not believe it's been 12 years since I have smelled your good cigar. I think of you everyday and miss you beyond belief. Thank you for watching over everyone in our life. Until we are together again, all our love - Mary, Petunia and Calie

Hi John, Well you must be up there just laughing your dupa off watching me take care of the new brat! Boy I'll tell you what..if this isn't a spitting image of Molly I don't know what is. Did you see me cleaning up the poop on the rug today? Well we are working on correcting that. Mary went on vacation this week to the place where you were last suppose to go until you took the easy way out (lol). It's cold here snow and all that good stuff. I hope you are keeping tabs on everyone up there. Boy there are a lot of people up there. Seems we know more people that are gone then are left. Well I'm home now for coffee and toast then back to the brat. Just thought I'd let you know that I know you are watching and the joke is on me! See you some day! Meanwhile take care of everyone! xoxox miss you! Linda p.s. I still look out behind the shed in the summer and I see you walking with the cable tv wire to hook up on the 5th wheel! Fun times never forgotten!

Hello My Dear,

You now have Molly with you and I'm sure Jack is very happy. It was a tough one to go through (again) but you already know that. My heart is very heavy at this time. But knowing that we will all be together soon puts some contentment in my ache. I can not believe it has been almost 12 years since I've heard your voice and held your hand. Take good care of my baby girl. Miss you all.... Love Mary

Hello John,
I can't believe it's been 10 years since you left us. Yes you sure have a lot of company now. It seems that almost all of the old gang has joined you. We are all so lonesome here I wonder if it's time to go and be with all you guys but guess that's not up to us to decide. Time marches on and one day it will be our time. In the meantime take care of everyone and have lots of fun. Oh and try to keep Mj in line..Linda

Some of them, I'm sure surprised you. I miss you! Tomorrow is your 59th Birthday. Happy Birthday Dear! Until we are together again, xxoo, Mary

Hi John,

Gee I haven't been writing for quite some time. A lot has been happening since I wrote last. Christmas went pretty good. We chuckled a bit about your trip from the Port Austin Legion ending up in Port Hope but to tell you the truth it was really Mary's directions that goofed you up...blondes gees! Today marks one year since I got this e-mail from Mary:JUST THOUGHT I'D SEND YOU A QUICK NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW WE WILL BE LEAVING Monday FROM METRO IN DETROIT. WE ARE GOING TO DETROIT Sunday AND STAYING OVER CAUSE OUR PLANE LEAVES AT 8:00 AM. MOLLY WILL GO TO THE VET'S Saturday. SO........IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS TO US YOU WILL HAVE CUSTODY OF MOLLY. SHE LIKES TO SLEEP UNDER THE COVERS SO SHE'LL GET ALONG GREAT WITH THE CATS OR YOU COULD TURN THE 5TH WHEEL INTO ONE BIG DOG HOUSE. SHE'D LIKE THAT! I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING OUT OF THIS PLACE. WE WILL BE BACK LATE THE FOLLOWING Monday. HOPE ALL IS FINE WITH YOU GUYS. YOU REALLY NEED TO THINK ABOUT GOING WITH US ON ONE OF THESE ALL INCLUSIVE DEALS. MAYBE NEXT YEAR... I sure never guessed that a few hours later you would leave us behind! I still cannot believe you are gone from this earth. I know you are with us I can feel it. And of course there is the time that you turned our power off! Smartie! Well guess what, Eddie is finally going with us tomorrow to Indiana to spend the weekend with Mary & Molly. Whip, Me and MJ are going too. I had a free night coming at the Blue Chip and gee believe it or not enough points on my player's club card to pay for the rest! Ha! So we are headed out in the morning. It should be interesting. We are going to the pub to have one in your honor (or a few) and then heading to the casino! Don't worry we'll puff a few cigars too! And you'll be there right with us! I'll let you know the scoop next time! Miss you...xoxoxo Linda

Hi John, Well today is Thanksgiving. Mary & Molly came last night (it was MJ's birthday) but she went to Marlette. She will be here tomorrow. We stayed at the condo and talked and split a few then went to the Grove for a couple. Man was it packed! Today Mary went over to your folks house for dinner. She said it was really nice. Then she went to her ma's. Jim put the stake and chain out MJ's sliding glass door so we can hook Molly up and she can be outdoors without being on the leash. It really works good. Molly didn't have to stay in the kennel! She's being a very good girl except of course when bugging me to throw the ball and eating my chips off the place mat when I'm not looking. We talked about you as usual and looked at some of the pictures of you. I told Mary it was nice that she took so many of them. My favorite is the one where you are sitting in the judge's seat! Looks pretty good! And the one where you are covered with snow when you walked in the house. Ha! Good One! Well Mary finally got the truck sold! And surprise some Mexican people bought it! That will teach you for teasing Mary about the old black mustang. Well one more holiday gone by without you. A couple to go this year but sure is a difficult time. We take one day at a time. Wish you were here with us in person but I know you aren't far away. Talk to you soon. xoxoxo Happy Thanksgiving! Linda

Hello John, Haven't talked in a while. The Kinde Polka Fest was packed but we froze. Didn't hang around long. We made the rounds this last weekend in our costumes for Halloween. Had fun, and of course shared some memories of you. Mary is hanging in there but she along with all of us miss you and wish you were here with us. Molly is getting adjusted to the back yard. Throw the ball throw the ball...you know the routine! Guess we'll winterize the 5th wheel soon. Molly and Mary will stay in the Winter Home MJ's "condo"! Sure wish you were here to complete the puzzle. Looks like cold weather is on the way. Until next time.. xoxoxo Linda

Well John, last Saturday was your party at Mike's house. We had a good time. MJ, Whip, Loretta and I all went with Mary. It started off quiet but the Don and Jeorgia got there and we all started talking. They are really nice everyone feels like they have know them forever. Of course you were there too! We even did some singing and dancing!!! It was a good turn out too. I like your secretary I believe her name is Denise! You would have been proud...she was doing shots in your honor too! Who would have guessed! xoxoxo Linda

Hi John,

Well another family reunion is here and gone. It was at the Legion and we had a great turn out just like last year. We made pierogi all day Friday. You would have pigged out! You remember how it was last year when we ran out of gas and you had to go get it for us don't you? My dad turned 91 this year! Wow hard to believe. You would have liked it at the reunion we had open bar so you could have split a few with everyone! Oh except for that ride to Port Hope on your way home! We're hanging in there. Molly is getting use to her "summer" home (the 5th wheel) but she sure is a sneaky little bugger! She takes off on us and it's hard to coax her back! Mary is doing a little better but your memory is strong and her love for you goes on and on and it will never be the same without you! We keep looking for you to come around the corner of the shed. Oh yea, we had a couple with you in the shed this past weekend too! Jim makes sure to hook that cable tv up first thing when Mary & Molly get here. We miss you so much John more than we ever thought we would. Love you!

You were robbed...big time..but that happens in life, but it goes on. With your good friends and good relatives you will make it thru and survive. We will all miss John, but his memory will live on in us and we will always have the good times to look back on. I just wish I could say something that would make you feel better and feel comforted, but those words are very hard to find..so I won't even try...cause you know I am there for you as is everyone that John and you touched. And remember that we are all praying for you.
You know I Love Ya.

Dear Mary,
My heart goes out to you. You and John were a very important part of my life for many years, like a second mom and dad. 3 things that come to my mind when I think and talk about John are: Mac & Coke, and that he was probably the only person who could read a text book and memorize it in like minutes, and of course playing pool. He was just one of those guys that always made you smile. He definetly has touched my life. He was always happy, I dont think I ever seen him upset with anyone. I just wish I would have been able to spend more time with you two the past few years. I am praying for you but you could not have been more lucky to have someone that loved you so much to share your life with. Many only dream of that but you acutally had it.
Luv you,
