John Sorota Obituary
Highland, IN - John A. Sorota, age 82, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024.
He is survived by his loving children, Susan (Aaron) Harris, John (Ann) Sorota and Nancy (Tom) Poznick; grandchildren, Brenna and Aaron "AJ" Harris and Nadia Poznick; sister, Helen (late, Norbert) Lewandowski; nieces, Marchell (Bob) Barkey and Colette Lewandowski; sister-in-law, Laurie (Jim) Gorski and their children, Donna Zimmerman, Jamie Poczekay, Jennifer Herma; and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judith; and parents, John and Mary Sorota.
John was a dedicated physics and math teacher at Whiting High School for 41 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and music. John was a lifelong Chicago White Sox and Bears fan.
He was an incredibly caring person and will be missed by so many.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at SOLAN PRUZIN FUNERAL HOME, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, directly at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN, with Rev. Gregory A. Bim-Merle officiating. Burial to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.

Dear Family of John Sorota,
I was so sorry to hear about your father's passing. John and I worked together on several committees for reports for the State. I so admired his attention to detail in the phrasing of responses to the State. I remember his dry wit and his thoughtful consideration of ideas, as he swept away the hair from his forehead in Kennedy-esque fashion. He was dedicated to the education of the students of Whiting and devoted to the well-being of his family. John truly was a wonderful man. May his memory be eternal.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. Mr Sorota was a great teacher and I will be missed. I always admired the way he was always involved with his family, often having his wife and children assist him in the concession stand. Rest in peace.

Mr Sorota´s family,
Sending my deepest condolences to you all. Mr Sorota was my math teacher at Whiting and he also was our class sponsor (class of 1972). He also was my daughter´s teacher (class of 1992). Mrs Sorota was my gym teacher. I still remember when they got engaged. They are together again, RIP Mr Sorota you truly will be missed.
