John Whittemore Obituary

JOHN D. WHITTEMORE GADSDEN, AL John D. Whittemore, age 88, of Gadsden, AL, passed away February 19, 2008. He is survived by sons: Don (Joyce) Whittemore, Rick (Kim) Whittemore and Tim (Susan) Whittemore; grandchildren: Lisa (Chris) Brady, Donnie Whittemore, Jr., Lauren and Mallory Whittemore, Timothy Whittemore, Amy Whittemore and Nena (Wes) Stephens; three great-grandchildren: Joey, Ryan and Josh Brady; brother, D.H. (Betty) Whittemore; sister, Frances (Ivan) Lowe; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Whittemore; sister, Bernice Matherly; brothers: F.L. Jr., Hobert and Stanley Whittemore. Mr. Whittemore was a native of St. Clair County. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a Paratrooper Jump Master, Military Police and small arms expert while in the U.S. Army. He retired from U.S. Steel in Indiana with 22 years of service. He loved doing carpenter work and was an excellent mechanic. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, 2008 at Village Chapel with Rev. T.V. Burroughs officiating. Burial at Red Hill Cemetery in Gallant. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in charge of arrangements (256) 547-5557.
