Joseph Dobes Obituary
Joseph J. Dobes, age 90, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017. Joseph is survived by his wife of 68 years: Beatrice; sons: Joseph (Nancy) Dobes, James (Patricia) Dobes, Jerome Dobes and Jeffery Dobes; grandchildren: Thomas, Meredith, and Jimmy Dobes, and JoAnne (Jeremy) High. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Mary Dobes; and brother: Milo (late wife Waunita) Dobes. Joseph was a life-long resident of Crown Point, along with his wife Bea. He retired from AT&T Bell System with 35 years as a Communications Serviceman. He was a World War II Veteran, and served in the China- Burma-India Theatre of Operations as a sniper attached to the 6th Marine Division at Taku-Bar China Base. He was later transferred to Washington D.C.'s 701st MP Battalion. He was a church member of St. Matthias Church and a life member of the American Legion Post #20 of Crown Point. He spent much time with the family hunting, fishing, boating and trapping. He also donated land to the City of Crown Point for Blue Bird Park. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family on Friday, April 21, 2017 directly at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 101 W. Burrell Dr., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 9:30 until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, with Father James Wozniak officiating. It's been a long time since Tom has been in 4-H, but I remember him well, and with pride. That pride came from his upbringing in a family that shared love, virtues, honor, and work ethics. That originally came from Grandpa Joe. My sympathies to all of you as you mourn your loss. But know that all who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord have an eternal home in heaven.
