Papaw was a wonderful man and I feel very blessed to have known him. Shawn and I enjoyed visiting Granny & Papaw when we lived in Chicago and we’re grateful to have spent some of Papaw’s last days together. He always made us feel so loved, we will cherish our memories and will miss him until we meet again. ♥

We didn't do a lot of the things that ward Cleaver and Ozzie Nelson would have done, but connected in other non-traditional ways. Went hunting with him twice. Once when I 'killed a mailbox' and the other was with Grandpa Hoadley and Kanneth when I 'ruined' the pelt of the 'possum' we had treed. Grandpa Hoadley was pissed, but it is a funny memory now. Never fished or saw the Cubs with him, unless it was on TV. I worked with him as a Laborer at US Steel one summer and learned the tools of his trade. WE built the garage on Mulberry, where he taught me the skills of creating things that we might need, but noone had made them yet. That was the beginning of my creative nature. I can 'see' him in all of my 'strange projects' over the years.
We did share a road trip to Paragould to get Grandpa Gwyn's '53 Ford pickup and take turns driving it back to Indiana. He coached my Pony League Baseball team where we learned that I didn't have the temprament to be a pitcher, after aiming fastballs at consecutive batters. We saw Canada and the Smokey Mountains and ate tamales for a street vendor at the Cotton Gin in Paragould, and he taught me how to shoot pool, design/build things, maintain my own vehicles, and develope the work ethic that I passed down to my kids.
I will always see him in the things I create with some of the tools he gave me over the years and when I pickup me pool cue.
