JOSEPH PETER KOLEFF "JOEY" CROWN POINT, IN Joseph "Joey" Peter Koleff, age 59, of Crown Point, IN, passed away suddenly with loving family by his side while at Community Hospital of Munster on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Born November 2, 1948 in East Chicago, IN, he was the son of Nick and the late Mary (nee Ciovica) Koleff. Joey was a member of the Washington High School Class of 1966, a graduate of Purdue University and later obtained his Masters Degree from IUN. He was also a representative for the Inland Athletic Association. Active in his community, Mr. Koleff was a member of the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church for over 30 years and also coached Schererville baseball. In his spare time, he enjoyed travels to enjoy the Florida beaches. An astronomy buff, he also enjoyed searching for satellites in the night sky and photography. An avid Cubs fan, Joey was always the life of the party and a friend to all no matter their age. He will be remembered as an optimistic person who loved life and had left a huge impact on the many lives he touched. Surviving to mourn his passing is his beloved wife of 37 years, Rita; cherished son, Geoffrey Koleff of Crown Point/Lafayette; loving father, Nick Koleff of Crown Point; devoted brother, Steve Koleff of Arkansas; special family friends: Steve, Sue and Jessica Cohen and the J.T. Loudermilk family all of Schererville; as well as countless dear friends. Waiting to greet him in Heaven is his beloved mother, Mary. Rita & Geoff,
I am going to miss the coolest cousin anybody could ever have. I have fond memories of holidays at the Koleff family home in the 60's before my family moved overseas. Joey was someone to look up in many ways.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. Joey lived a street over from me in Prarie Park. He was one heck of a second baseman. Second base in heaven is solid for eternity.

The Gentlemen's Trietet will never be the same. I cherish the memories of 'hangin' in your basement home in EC while attending WHS. We would listen to Maynard Ferguson and play our trumpets with the third member of the Trietet, Carl Hedelius. I will treasure all the good times we had in Nick Young's band and on the baseball field with your dad.
I am saddened by your passing and will pray for your family.

Rita & Geoffrey,

This morning while at work, someone from home called to notify me about Joey's passing. I was just so saddened. I'll always cherish the memories of Joey and pals, for helping me with many homework assignments throughout high school and then college while working at Plaza on Friday nights. Many years and many memories I will forever cherish. He will be greatly missed by many. My sympathies to you and your family during this diffcult time.

Rita & Geoff,
I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and Dad. I knew Joey from when I worked as a bartender at Plaza Lanes on the annex side. He was a great guy, "Larger than life", that's a good way to describe Joey. He got along with everyone, always smiling and joking. I will never forget the great pride he took in his son Geoff. He always wanted to talk about him and how well he was doing, what he was up to. I hadn't seen Joey since I quit working at Plaza 3 years ago, but I still remember him well and am so sorry that he passed away when he had so much more life to live.
Again, my sympathies to ALL his family & friends.

How sad that such a great person was taken so early. Joey was such an enthusiastic and pleasant person to be around. I worked beside him many years in the IAA and will cherish those memories. He will be rooting for the Cubs from above. Rita and Geoff you have my deepest sympathy.

Rita & Jeff,
We were so shocked and saddened to read this morning that Joey had passed. Butch's voice cracked when he told me about making fun with him Sat at the picnic. His enthusiasm for Purdue and the Cubs was paramount, no matter what others said or how the teams' seasons went. He was a loyal fan and a true and loving friend. He will be missed, but his laughter will always remain in our minds and his "Joeyisms" will have a special place in our hearts.
God Speed...Strength in Faith.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Les & Lenora Victor
