Joseph P. "Jeff" Kristek, 84 of Whiting passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Whispering Pines Rehabilitation Center, Valparaiso. Waiting to be reunited with Jeff is his beloved wife, Helen (nee Chovancak) who passed away June 12, 1991; loving father of Mary Ann (Frank) Nowak of Valparaiso, Helen Ann Kristek of Whiting and Joseph P. (Donna) Kristek, Jr. of Chesterton; proud grandfather of Erin (Jeremy Bosnak) McGee and Brianne (Jeff) Miller; cherished brother of Tom (Theresa) Kristek, Evelyn (late Jerry) Osterman, Marge (late Joe) Sandor and Betty (late Paul) Cash; dear brother-in-law of Harla (late Steve) Kristek; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and his devoted canine companion, "Scrappie". He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Steve, Marty and John Kristek and Ann Thomas. Friends are invited to meet with the family to celebrate his life on Monday morning, May 12, 2014, by wearing your favorite sports apparel, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. At 10:00 a.m. the procession will leave for Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, for graveside services with the Rev. Kevin M. Scalf, C.PP.S. of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating. Jeff Kristek was born on January 15, 1930 in Whiting, IN to Stephen and Eva (Sporinsky) Kristek and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Whiting and the Roosevelt Club. Jeff was a US Marine Corps Veteran and was a retiree of the Lever Bros. Company, Hammond. Jeff enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid Chicago sports enthusiast and loved animals. Devoted to his family, Jeff will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
