Joyce V. Smith (nee Venable), age 90, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

Joyce is survived by her children: Janet E. Smith, Kirk A. (Rhonda) Smith DVM, and Eric M. (Mary) Smith MD; grandchildren: Julia Smith, Alaina Smith, Ian Smith, Morgan Smith and Taylor Smith.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey "Bud" Smith DVM; parents: Mays and Nelle Venable; brother, Mays Venable Jr.; sister, Patricia Johnson; and sisters-in-law: Janet Faulkner and Mary Sewell.

Joyce was the veterinary assistant and administrator for Smith Animal Clinic. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tri Kappa and PEO Sisterhood along with the Lake County Fair and 4H. Joyce was in a bridge club, enjoyed gardening and especially time spent with family and friends at her lake cottage.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Joyce will be laid to rest at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Joyce's name to Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine at https://vet.purdue.edu/giving/.

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious mother. She was a beautiful woman and her beauty definitely has been passed down to you.
