Mildred Panayotovich Obituary
Mildred "Mitzi" Panayotovich (nee Drobac), of Lansing, IL, formerly of the East Side and Hegewisch, passed away June 17, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Milan; loving mother of former State Representative Sam (Cindy) Panayotovich and Michael Panayotovich; fond grandmother of Eli and Brooke (Patrick) Guy, Sam and Adam Panayotovich; great grandmother of Brenden and London Guy; devoted daughter of the late Joe and the late Sava Drobac; dear sister of Helen (late Marko) Popovich, late Eli (late Dorothy) Drobac, late Nick (Delores) Drobac, Joanne (Steve) Zagorac, late George (Helen) Drobac, Donna (Milan) Rakich and Doreen (late Joe) Bisone; dear sister-in-law of late Bob (Helen) Panayotovich and Violet (Milan) Bundalo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and Kumovi. Dear Kuma "Godmother" of Sam, Marko and Mary Poznanovich. Mildred was past president and member of Knjeginja Zorka Circle of Serbian Sisters, member of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, Lansing and Karageorgevich Lodge #25 S.N.F., former member of S.S.S. Sloboda Choir, former co-owner of Milan's Snack Shop in Hegewisch, Milan's Restaurant in South Chicago and Milan's Pub, East Side. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, Lansing, IL. Will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. The Very Rev. Dr. Milos Vesin officiating. Interment Oakland Memory Lanes, Dolton, IL. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2008 from 2:00-9:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago, IL. Pomen Service 7:30 p.m. For information, please call (773) 731-2749.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your mom's passing. It is very hard being so far away when someone who was a part of your Serbian life passes away, but know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I personally did not know Mitzi, but I knew her grandfather and grandmother. I remember visiting them when they lived above the Cozy Corner, 133rd and Baltimore. Sam and my dad, Milan, were best of friends in the 1920-1940's. They were from the same part of Serbia. I also knew Milan and remember him playing football for the Arizona Bears in Hegewisch in the 40's. I wish your family my condolence this time of mourning. God bless all of you.

Dear friends of the Weirbeky, Burbick, Pejic and Oliver families:
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all of you. My/our parents and aunts, uncles and cousins were so privileged to know and to love Mitzi (and all of her family members) that we are especially saddened to learn that she has left us for now. The only consolation I have is knowing that her spirit is now with those of my Mom (Bee Weirbeky) and my Sister (Bea Oliver)---- and of all those whom we will always miss.
