Mr. Paul Donald Backe, age 75, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on February 19, 1950 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Donald and Anna McGraw Backe. He was raised in Hammond and graduated from Bishop Noll Institute. He was blessed to raise two children, Jill and Greg. He retired from Ameritech Phone Company after 35 years of service as a phone line repairman. He resided in Henderson, Nevada from 2001 to 2020 when he settled in Madison. He enjoyed participating in the Madison Senior Citizens Center. Paul also liked to play golf, travel and play ping pong. Paul died on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 3:52 am at his home in Madison, Indiana.A LOVING FAMILYPaul will be missed by his loving daughter, Jill St. Francis of Madison, Indiana; his loving son, Greg Backe and his wife, Kristine of Fort Mohave, Arizona; his grandchildren, Ella Kreig, Amelia St. Francis and Max Backe; his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Kreig; his sisters, Mary Backe of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ruth Backe Mores of Hammond, Indiana, Joan Backe-Kuhl of Indianapolis, Indiana, Helen Backe of Dalton, Illinois; his brothers, Tom Backe of Washington, Jim Backe of Indianapolis, Indiana, John Backe of Ashville, North Carolina; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Backe and his mother, Anna McGraw Backe.PAUL'S WISHESPaul chose cremation with no public service to be held. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery, 600 West Fifth Street in downtown Madison, Indiana.MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONSMemorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans.
