Robert J. Gulvas Whiting Robert J. Gulvas, 63, of Whiting, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2003 at his residence. Beloved husband of 31 years to Sandy (nee Headley). Loving father of Marc, Greg and Laura, all of Whiting. Devoted son of Ann (Fercik) Gulvas of Whiting. Dear brother of William (Barbara) Gulvas of Buckley, MI. Fond nephew of Joseph (Evelyn) Gulvas, Mary (late John) Petro and Anthony Fercik, all of Whiting. Dear brother-in-law of Mildred Headley Flynn of Highland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father John A. Gulvas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at. 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, Whiting, with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S. officiating. Interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Bob Gulvas was born on September 21, 1940 in Hammond, IN, and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, whose members together with the St. John Rosary Society will offer prayers at the funeral home on Monday at 4 p.m.; The Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council 1696 (prayers Monday, 4:30 p.m.); the First Catholic Slovak Mens Union #762; an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict; member of American Legion Whiting Post #80 and the V.F.W. Walter Kleiber Post #2724, who together will conduct memorial services at the funeral home Monday at 8 p.m. An avid sports fan, Bob enjoyed coaching for the Whiting Little League, he coached basketball and soccer at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, the American Legion Post #80 baseball team and baseball at Whiting High School. He graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic School, class of 1954; George Rogers Clark High School, class of 1958; and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN, in 1962. A retiree of the Inland Steel Company, East Chicago, with a service of 35 years. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother, and a great friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. 219-659-4400
