Romualdo Unate Obituary
WHITING, IN
Romualdo Unate, 84 of Whiting, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elva (nee Rodriguez); loving father of: Annabelle (late Paul) Jankowiak of Downers Grove, IL, Annette (Dave) Boland, Pablo (Wanda) Unate, Angie (Tim) Golubic and Rebeca (Mike) Michko all of Whiting; cherished grandfather of Tim (Joy), Matt (Vanessa) and Susie Jankowiak, Regena (Scott) Leu, David and Rachel Boland, Michael Unate, Joey Golubic and Michael Michko; adoring great grandpa of Annabelle Lee Jankowiak; dearest brother of Antonio (late Juana), Heriberto (Chita), Andrea (Aurelio) Cervantes, Jose (Tina), Teresa (late Modesto) Fraga, Angelita (late Isidro) Mendoza and the late Sebastian, Pedro, Eugenio and Carmela Dominguez; dear brother in law of Ricardo (Maria) Rodriguez, Conrado (late Gloria) Rodriguez, Jorge (Rosa) Rodriguez and Romeo (late Aurora) Rodriguez; proud uncle to many nieces and nephews and his devoted canine companion, "PeeWee".
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 2014, 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating. Interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The St. John Rosary Society will offer prayers at the funeral home on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
Romualdo Unate, was born on October 28, 1929 in Baytown, TX to Antonio and Angelita Unate and was a longtime resident of Whiting. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting and the former SS. Peter & Paul Church of Whiting. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696 (Prayers, Thursday at 8:00 p.m.) and was a retiree of the Inland Steel Co., East Chicago with a service of 38 years. He had a love of woodworking, gardening and traveling. Devoted to his family, Romualdo will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Romauldo's family would like to thank the Hammond-Whiting Care Center for taking such good care of Romualdo and for welcoming him and Elva into their community.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shriner's Hospital for Children or to the Whiting Animal Shelter, would be appreciated.

Please accept my deepest sympathy. I was privileged to take Holy Communion to Romauldo on several occasions when he was hospitalized. What a beautiful, faithful man. He was so very proud of his family. May God be with you in your time of grief. Know that my prayers are with all of you.
