Russell Edwards Valparaiso Russell Edwards, 90, of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Life Care of the Willows. He was born June 19, 1913 in Macedonia, Illinois, the son of Loren and Lena (Hicks) Edwards. Russell was a heavy equipment operator in the transportation department at Inland Steel. He was a WWII Navy Veteran having served in the Philippines. He was a member of the VFW 802 and the American Legion Post 126 in Hammond. Russell was a great sports fan of basketball and football. On July 11, 1953 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, he married Doris J. Mick-Moore whom survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving are five daughters, Jean (Ronnie) Houseworth of Bonnie, IL, Terry (David) Ryzewski of Valparaiso, Virginia (Dennis) Wylin of McComb, MI, Lois (Mike) Sweeney of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Susan (John) Meyer of Dyer, IN; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His parents, four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Interment will be held on February 7, 2004 at 11:00 AM in the West Salem Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
