Ruth Ellen Wertz

RUTH ELLEN WERTZ SARASOTA, FL Ruth Ellen Wertz, 88, passed away on October 20, 2014. She was born in Chicago and married to Orvis L. Wertz for 62 years until his death in 2005. Survived by six children: Dean (Christine) Wertz, Sandra (James) Shelby, Linda (Richard) Trout, Orvis Lowell (Claudia) Wertz, Wayne Wertz, Howard Wertz, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Ruth's love for the Lord was evident as she served as Director of a town-wide Daily Vacation Bible School, Kids Bible Study and numerous other Church leadership roles. Ruth and Orvis made many mission trips to Africa bringing clothing and supplies for those in need. She traveled to Churches throughout the U.S. sharing how to partner with the "Joy in the Harvest Ministry" sharing the love of Christ and caring for the people in Africa, where she was known as "Mama Ruth." Her efforts have resulted in dozens of construction, medical and dental teams who continue to assist the Mission Station located in Kigoma, Tanzania. Ruth's desire was to be cremated.
