Steven Cygan Obituary
Steven L. Cygan, age 49, of Michigan City, died Wednesday March 18, 2009 at University of Chicago Hospital. He was born January 12, 1960 in Hammond to John Stanley, II and Barbara (Relinski) Cygan. Steve had been the assistant manager at The Home Depot in Benton Harbor, MI and was attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah. Steve is survived and will be greatly missed by his two children: Brandon (Jamie) Cygan of Wanatah and Brooke Cygan of Valparaiso; grandson, Jordan Cygan of Wanatah; his wife of 22 years and forever friend, Cathy Cygan of Valparaiso; his mother, Barbara Cygan of LaPorte; two brothers: John (Heather) Cygan of Union Mills and Tim (late Jackie) Cygan of LaPorte; nieces and nephews: Jessica and Justin Knight and David, Drew, and Grace Cygan; and mother and father-in-law, Paula and Wadie Knight. He was preceded in death by his father. Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory in Valparaiso, a memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM, the Rev. Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Visitation will be at Sacred Heart on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. moellerfuneralhome.com.

I worked with Steve at Home Depot. His joy for life, sense of humor and love for family made it a joy to be in his presence. He will be missed, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to have known him. My prayers go out to his family and friends. Peace, joy and blessings.

So very sorry to hear about your tremedous loss. Went to school together and even lived down the block from Steve and Family during our High School Years. Hadn't seen Steve in over 25 years until one day we ended up sitting across from eachother at a Home Depot class! We had a good laugh about that, not to mention the "Griffith Memories" we dug up. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to your entire family.

Steve was the definition of an excellent Father. His Pride and Joy, Brandon and Brooke, will certainly miss him dearly. Steve and Cathy taught both of them one of the most important lessons a parent can teach, the strong bonds that tie parents with their children forever.
