Thomas Katona Obituary

Thomas D. Katona (TK)

Feb 3, 1954 - Sep 18, 2025

Thomas D. Katona (TK) passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 18, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy Holinga Katona, brother-in-law George (Karen) Holinga, sister-inlaw Sue Katona, brother George (Sue) Katona, nieces Julie, Andrea, Beth, Mary and Lynn, nephews George Jr, Jimmy, Phil, Mark and Matt, Great-nieces Caroline, Madeleine and Alexandra. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Helen Katona, brothers Jim and Lester Katona. Tom was born February 3, 1954 in Hammond, IN and was a Graduate of Bishop Noll Institute. On September 19, 1981 he married the love of his life and the sister of his best friend Andrew, Peggy Holinga. They lived in Highland, IN. for 44 years with Lexi, their Golden Lab. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church since birth. He was retired from Mittal Steel where he worked as an electrician in the power plant for 43 years.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish with his crew. Tom, called TK by all of his friends, was proclaimed to be "THE BEST" in both sports. He supplied all of his friends and neighbors with fresh catches of lake perch, crappies, and walleye. Tom's other passion was gardening and nursery work. Whenever anyone entered the backyard of his home, they were stunned by the elegance and beauty. It was like looking at a picture from a Better Homes & Garden setting. He also enjoyed his extensive vegetable garden which he shared with many. From his garden he learned how to make delicious dill pickles & salsa.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28th, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 29th, 2025 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3005 Condit St, Highland, IN, 46322.
