Thomas J. Krull Jr. of Munster, IN passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025 surrounded by his family at the age of 78. Tom passed away just three days after his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Krull. He is survived by his daughters, Tara (Matthew) Poteraj of Jeffersonville, IN and Erin (Richard) Novak of Munster, IN. Tom was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life: Emily and John Poteraj and Thomas, Richard and William Novak. Tom is also survived by his sister, Karen Krull of Redondo Beach, CA; brother, Kevin (Gloria) Krull of South Bend, IN along with his Aunt Kathryn Ackroyd, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Thomas J. Krull Sr.
Tom was born on October 16, 1947 and grew up in Whiting, Indiana. He graduated from Bishop Noll High School in 1965 and Calumet College of St. Joseph in 1969 and began his career at Continental Bank in Chicago, IL. He was drafted into service by the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1969-1971 achieving the rank of Sgt. E5. Upon his return to the USA, he continued his career at Continental Bank. In July of 1972, he began his 48 year career at Schwarz Paper Company as an Account Manager. This job took him all over the Midwest calling on his accounts and selling packaging materials to both large and small corporations. Tom's wit and easygoing personality was pivotal in his successful career and is something for which he will always be remembered. Tom enjoyed ushering at church, never missed a 5:30 Saturday mass, and bowled in the men's league for many years. His bowling career even earned him a Thanksgiving turkey and a collection of satin bowling jackets. He enjoyed many family vacations over the years and making memories with his children and grandchildren. A devout Chicago Cubs fan, Tom was delighted when the Cubbies won the World Series in 2016 and attended many games throughout his years. After retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's games, concerts, and taking it easy. He was a regular at Fitness Pointe and could always be seen around town riding his bike. Tom's kindness, warmth, and devotion to his family and faith will always be remembered by many.
Friends may visit with the family of both Thomas and Phyllis Krull at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN, on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, with a prayer service from Father Charles Niblick at 4:00pm, as well as again on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 9:30am to 10:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00am at Saint Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN, with burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
