Vanessa Ramona Banks

LITHONIA, GA -

Vanessa Ramona Banks age 63, passed away April 15, 2019 in Lithonia, GA. She was born April 25, 1955 in Gary, IN to Herman and Clarissa Banks. Vanessa loved shopping (for purses, shoes, and earrings in particular), cooking and talking to people. Van had a sweet tooth and her favorite candy was Turtles. She would spark up a conversation with anyone willing to listen and loved bragging about her children. Her favorite color was purple and fresh flowers always brought a smile to her face. She was an extremely hard worker throughout her life, and prided herself on being timely. Vanessa was always on the go and you could find her at stores browsing the aisles for a good deal. She loved getting dressed up and when she did, you couldn't tell her she wasn't fine. Vanessa was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute Class of 1973. She worked several jobs in her younger years and moved south to Decatur, GA in 1995. She worked at the Fulton County Court House in Atlanta, GA for close to 20 years, retiring in 2017. Vanessa would often remind others to "Live, Laugh and Love." Vanessa is survived by: grandfather Vernon Howlett; mother Clarrisa Banks; sisters Monica Banks and Erica Nwokedi; daughter Torrie Wright; son Joray (Kelly) Wright; grandchildren William Wheaton, Diamond Wright, Destiny, Donald and Cory Chatman; nieces and nephew Damon Banks, Ifeoma, Onyemachi, Nwamaka Nwokedi.

We never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. For Vanessa, "Live, Laugh and Love" was her reminder for us. Let us not forget that.

I met Vanessa at Fulton County Superior Court. She was a coworker and a friend. She always smiled and ministered to me when I had challenges. We would talk about what we would be doing when we retired. She always spoke very highly of her son as we both had sons. May God be pleased with her life and rest in peace.

I was deeply sadden to hear that my childhood girlfriend has passed away. Vanessa was my girl. We clicked and celebrated our birthdays together! Jazzy Lady was she. As I reflect on all the good times me and Vanessa shared together as kids that were born on the same day, I smile often, she will always have a special place in my heart, and she knows that! The Dawson's from 10th and Jackson St send our condolences to the Banks Family.

Dear family of Vanessa Ramona Banks, I read the obituaries every morning. This obituary reads like a poem, a beautiful work of art, so personal, naming the every-day yet precious characteristics of this unique, joyful soul that is Vanessa. I feel as if I know her, though I never met her (unless, of course, I passed her by in the aisles of the stores, as she was seeking a good bargain and greeting people like me, which it sounds like she would). I wanted to tell you how moving this homage is, and so, of course, how much more profoundly precious Vanessa is to all of you, and may God give you all peace and comfort. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul.
