Walter Wintczak Obituary
Walter Wintczak, age 83, of East Chicago, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen (nee Bankey); two daughters: Marian (Daniel) Okey of Crown Point and Barbara (James) Woermbke of Mendon, MI; two sons: Ronald (Tammy) Wintczak of Knox, IN and Joseph (Leah) Wintczak of Hammond; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; daughter- in-law, Vicki Padgett of Linton, IN; sister, Elma Madsen of Munster; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son, Walter Jr.; grandson, Paul Steinhauer; and brothers: Chester and Hank. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the Lesniak Funeral Home, 4918 Magoun Ave., East Chicago to St. Stanislaus Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating. Burial at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may call at the Lesniak Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Posting of colors at 7:30 p.m. by Post 369. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Knights of Columbus. Rosary prayer service at 7:45 p.m. by Holy Name Society. Mr. Wintczak was a lifelong resident of East Chicago. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Holy Name Society, a retired employee of Inland Steel Co. with 42 years of service, and a member of Inland 25 Year Club. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Allied Post 369 and Knights of Columbus Msgr. Connelly Council No. 1700.
