Wayne L. Shick

WAYNE L. SHICK PROFESSOR EMERITUS MUNSTER, IN Wayne L. Shick passed away Friday, December 21, 2007. He was the son of Ralph and Lucille Shick of Kishwaukee. Wayne was born in Kishwaukee, IL. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign where he became a Professor of Architecture. After teaching for nearly 30 years, he became internationally recognized as the research pioneer of the super- insulated house at the university's Small Homes Council. However, his proudest accomplishment was serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in New Guinea during World War II. Wayne was a member of the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church where he sang in the choir and served wherever needed. He was a member of the Rotary, enjoyed helping the Salvation Army and was active in the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. He had been an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Champaign, IL. Wayne is survived by his wife, Nicky and her two children: Constance Karras of Highland, IN and Elias (Pam) Carras of Lowell, IN; his children: David Shick of Seattle, WA, Randy (Chris) Shick of Springfield, IL and Julie Riehle of Champaign, IL; grandchildren: Allison, Sarah, Andy (Miranda), Jon, Elise, Michelle and Beth; and great-grandchild, Vivian. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Cole Shick. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Demetrios Church, 7021 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN. A graveside memorial service will also be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Urbana, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, 2007 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Saint Demetrios Church.
