ALAN HRUSKA Obituary

HRUSKA--Alan J. The lawyers and staff of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP mourn the passing of their partner, colleague and friend, Alan J. Hruska. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and family. Mr. Hruska joined Cravath in 1958, became a partner in 1968 and retired in 2001. Over the course of his career, he handled a wide range of civil litigation and served in leadership roles for a number of professional organizations. Mr. Hruska served as Secretary of the New York City Bar Association, President of the Federal Bar Council, President of the Institute of Judicial Administration, Chairman of the Second Circuit Judicial Conference Planning and Program Committee, and as a Commissioner of the New York State Executive Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice. Born in New York, Mr. Hruska received a B.A. from Yale College in 1955 and an LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1958, where he was Note and Comment Editor of the Law Review. In his many years at Cravath, Mr. Hruska was known for his skill as a litigator as well as his gregarious character and warmth. Outside of his legal practice, he was an accomplished novelist, playwright and film director whose works spanned his many interests across genres, including science fiction, mystery and comedy. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
