Dear Alice,
I was one of Al's roommates in Calhoun and my wife Cecily and I met you and Al in the sky box at the bowl some years ago.
Al and I were at Deerfield together before Yale. Even then he showed his talent in art devising amusing cartoons of knights in armor for the Deerfield yearbook. He studied Art History at Yale, but I can't remember his drawing very much; he was too occupied with swimming, I think. So, to see his true talent in his detailed drawings of animals was a revelation. And I remember how appropriate that he married you, also a talented artist. I regret that we, living in England, have not had a chance to spend more time with you.
I sent Al two volumes of a publication which I did for our class and included a picture of the portrait he did for Carmen Cozza, which now hangs in Mory's entrance. It continues to be a great symbol for all Yale people. I hope that he received these volumes.
Cecily joins me in sending our best wishes to you and your large families.
