ALVIN SCHULMAN

SCHULMAN--Alvin, died August 14, 2022, at age 91, at home in New York City, in the company of his beloved partner Anne McIlvaine. A native New Yorker and proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Alvin was a lawyer's lawyer; a great teller of stories; an elegant dresser; a fan of good opera and the Mets; a stickler for precision and accuracy in communication; and one who took endless delight in the presence and accomplishments of his daughters Amy Schulman, Nina Schulman and Cheryl Cramer, and grandchildren Ezra, Gideon and Rafael Nachman, Lydia and Saul Ruddick- Schulman and Lee Papierowicz. The son of Eva nee Canon and Isidor Schulman, younger brother of four siblings, Alvin was graduated from NYU and Yale Law School, clerked for SDNY Judge Edward Palmieri, and began his legal career at Botein, Hays, Sklar, where he worked a steady 6-day week and rose to partnership. In the 1970s, he became General Counsel, then President, of the Josephson International talent agency before returning to law practice at Moses & Singer, where he continued providing wise counsel to his clients until nearly the end. Alvin actively participated in the New York City Bar Association, the Century Association and other organizations, and lived his ideals of what it meant to be an engaged lawyer and informed citizen. He was predeceased by ex-wives Ann Schulman (nee Weinfeld) and Eugenia Shanklin. Memorial service at Frank E. Campbell Chapel, on August 18 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Yale Law School, where a scholarship will be established in his honor, or to the Metropolitan Opera.
