My mother, Kit Mooney went to RISD with Matt and Anna. As a young man I had the opportunity to visit them at their place on the beach in Rhode Island. Anna make quahog chowder from clams that Matt and my Dad and I harvested that day. She sent me home with a little ceramic toad that she had made. I treasure it to this day.

I remember when I was little and taking road trips to Jamestown RI. with her, my grandmother (her sister Alice), my brother, and mother. She would sit on the beach-side and paint pictures of the ocean and say what a beautiful day it was, as Doug and I would play. She would encourage us to do the best we could when painting or drawing pictures, and she taught me how to paint the ocean. She loved all us kids. She brought out the beauty of many things in life in the way she put them on canvases with her talented paintings. She encouraged her students, family (us kids), and friends to do the same. We will greatly miss her and her talent, and deeply love her forever. WE MISS YOU AUNTIE. Love, Skyler, Alicia, Sarabeth,Paula, and Jason

I met Anna toddling down Remsen Street. She and Matt were the only people I felt comfortable with besides my mom. They were my god parents, in charge of the most important aspect of my education - the adventure of making art and enjoying life. My deepest appreciation, you are missed!

I remember when I was younger going beach combing, drawing pictures & making sea shell jewelry with my Auntie Anna. Her Christmas cards that I'd get from her every year meant so much to me because she made them herself. I will miss & most importantly love you always Auntie.

I was just thinking of her on sunday as I tore paper for a collage. Even though she was my childhood art teacher, her influence on my art has been life long. Anna, I will miss you very much

I met Anna through my partner who was one of her students at the 92nd Street Y. As I recall, Anna was once asked what was Anna's primary goal in teaching. She paused, and replied, so the story goes, that her aim was to teach creativity, to help people recognize and enjoy creativity within themselves. In that, Anna succeeded again and again from what I have heard from Anna's students, and from works I have seen of Anna and her students. Anna was encouraging, suggesting a pinch here, or a slice and fold there, a splash of color here, a spot of color or lack of color there. Art is, for my partner, fun. Whimsy is permitted, even welcomed. For that, I am forever grateful to Anna. And for Anna's friendship with my partner and me.

When we first found a space for a tiny gallery in Brooklyn, our real estate agent brought us a package from a Mrs. O'Toole who was moving away with her best wishes for luck in our new venture. It was a 1970 Ink Drawing of a Dandelion by Anna Tefft Siok. The drawing hangs in our office and reminds us of the generosity of strangers and the possibilities of beauty. Thank you Mrs. O'Toole and Miss Siok. This week it is in the window to share it with the world.
