ANNE LINDGREN

LINDGREN--Anne Howard. Was a true New Yorker. She was born here, then moved abroad with her parents Howard and Mildred MacPherson and siblings Peggy and Hugh. Her childhood was split between Athens, Istanbul and Mahwah, NJ. She graduated from Vassar College and earned an MA in history from Brown University. She wed Richard Lindgren from Jamestown, NY, in 1962. They had three children, Sarah, Hugo and Doug, and were married until his death in 2011. Anne was passionate about affordable housing and she worked on both the public and private side, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She was active in nonprofits, serving on the boards of Settlement Housing Fund, Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center, Musica Sacra, Turtle Bay Music School and the Tuttle Fund. She loved the opera, the Corner Bookstore, taking her dog Lucy for long walks in Central Park, the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Christmas carols, public radio, Shelter Island, the Cosmopolitan Club and, of course, her family. She stayed close to Peggy and Hugh and their wonderful families, and she is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren. In her final years, she was lovingly cared for by Mary Opoku. Anne laughed easily and often. She was generous, gracious, curious, always listened and always had something interesting to say.
