Arthur had such a profound influence on me, even acting as my sponsor for admission to the bar, NY First Judicial Department, in May 1989. (See attached picture of us in front of the NY Court of Appeals on Madison Square) He attended my wedding in the Heather Garden up by the Cloisters. As a young attorney in the Village, my first commercial litigation case was as Arthur's associate and I was thrilled when we won our case, beating an injunction in NY Supreme Court, on behalf of young artists Miller, Miller, Miller & Sloan, (Dan, Barney and Mike) managed by Neil Ross! Walking down Bleecker Street with Arthur was like walking with the mayor - everyone knew him, smiled, stopped to chat, shopkeepers and restauranteurs waving and offering lunch on the house, he lived a rich life in a wonderful community that claimed him as their own. I remember celebrating at Chumleys with him when Clinton won the presidential election, and him beaming. Memories of working with him in his downstairs office, and him stopping in the middle of our writing a brief, to share a musical number from his play-in-progress about the Nixon administration, laughing at his scene of the aides and the president dancing a kick line singing about their criminal activities! He seemed devoted to his wife Irene, attentive to her presence, calling through the house to make sure she was cared for in the moment. While it's been many years since I saw Arthur, I will really miss him. I see his smiling face, full of passion and care for his fellow humans, when I think of him. I will forever be grateful to have shared in a small part of a great life.
