I fell in love with Ashley and his work about four years ago when I was visiting Portland and Priscilla Dreyman took me to his exhibit and showed me the film about him. I was immediately captivated and bought a copy of most of his books. Thank you, thank you, Ashley, for your beautiful, soaring spirit, and your calling to inspire young people, especially those of color!

Ashley changed my life when I encountered him 43 years ago as a student in one of his courses at Dartmouth. Since then he remained a dear friend and mentor and his nuggets of wisdom are touchstones for me. He was a man of supreme grace and he showed us all how to be better humans. His art will continue to bless our world. I have nothing but gratitude for this great man

Sending my heartfelt condolences to his family. As Ashley’s student at Dartmouth college I have stayed in touch with him since 1982 mainly by letter. What a wonderful man and teacher! He was so inspiring. I visited him a few times on Islesford - the last time in 2017. I was happy to see he was so lovingly cared for by his niece at that time. (I remember him telling us about his nieces back in the 1980s!) Ashley, you will live on for all of us in our hearts!
