I had the honor and privilege of working with Dr. Curtin at St. Patricks Home for more than 25 years and truly enjoyed the days we held Eye Clinics. He was loved and respected by all our nurses and patients. I will have masses said. I just found out about his passing. My condolences to his family.

My father who still lives in the area let me know that Dr. Curtin (as I knew him) had passed away. Although I haven't seen Dr. Curtin since I was about college-age and I'm now 50, I felt the need to share how much a difference he made in my life. I was born with terrible vision and near-blind in one eye. My parents found Dr. Curtin and insisted I take a day off from school here and there to go to Manhattan to see him because they were convinced he could help me so much better than anyone else. They were right. While I will never have good vision, I have what I do and function fairly well because of Dr. Curtin's concern and expert skill. I live in Minnesota now and when I moved here, early on, I tried to find an eye doctor of the same caliber. And, when I had kids, I insisted that they go to the best doctor we could find. Eye doctors do make a difference and I'm very grateful for Dr. Curtin's service. My condolences to all of you.

My name is Brian Joseph Hickey. I have the distinct honor to have been named after Dr. Curtin in 1950, by my father, John J. Hickey (DTC-USN Ret., deceased 1993). They served in the Navy together in the late 40's. I was never able to meet Dr. Curtin, but my father related his respect and admiration for him to me at an early age. Top notch physician, athletic, and an outgoing leader. Only now, after reading just part of his life's work, can I truly appreciate the contributions this man made to our understanding of the gift of human sight. My condolences to the Curtin family, friends, and medical colleagues. With honor and humility,BRIAN JOSEPH HickeyErie, PA
