BRICE MARDEN

MARDEN--Brice. The Trustees and staff of The Museum of Modern Art mourn the loss of Brice Marden, an artist who over the course of six decades produced a body of work of profound beauty and intelligence. Marden's extraordinary achievements in the realms of painting, drawing, and printmaking reflect a lifelong commitment to art as a moral endeavor, "a sounding board for the spirit." MoMA's holdings, beginning with the purchase of a drawing in 1969, number one hundred works spanning his career, and in 2006 we were honored to present Plane Image, a retrospective exhibition organized by Gary Garrels. We will deeply miss Brice's friendship and extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Helen, their daughters Mirabelle and Melia, and his son Nicholas.
