BROOKS JACKSON Obituary

JACKSON--Brooks. Brooks Jackson, original member of the New York City Ballet, and proprietor of Jackson-Iolas Gallery, dies at 98. Brooks Jackson was born February 28, 1924, in Athens, TX and died September 25, 2022, in New York City. In 1944, Mr. Jackson danced one season with Martha Graham. In 1946 he was selected to dance in George Balanchine's Ballet Society, which became New York City Ballet in 1948. He stayed with the company until 1955. Mr. Jackson also performed in three Broadway shows and in the New York City Opera. After he stopped dancing, Mr. Jackson worked with art dealer and gallery owner Alexander Iolas, eventually opening his own gallery, the Brooks Jackson-Iolas Gallery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Martha Brooks-Jackson, his wife Adriana Celli-Jackson, one brother, and five sisters. Mr. Jackson is survived by his devoted companion, Kelly King, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. A memorial service will be held October 22, 2022, at 2pm at St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church, corner of East 76th Street and Lexington Ave. New York City, NY.
