Carla Tscherny Obituary

TSCHERNY--Carla. Carla Tscherny died peacefully on the morning of September 14th, after a short illness. A graduate of the Fieldston School, Hampshire College, and the Courtauld Institute, Carla was a lifelong New Yorker. Daughter of the late Sonia and George Tscherny, sister of the late Nadia Parnass, adoring mother of Max Milder, and devoted partner of Bill Vieser. She will be remembered for her distinctive style, her sharp wit, and creativity in every facet of life. Her many friends will miss her dearly and remember her ability to bring people together at the family brownstone. A gathering in her memory is being planned.

I´ve taught in the Theatre Department at Smith College for 50 years this year. And one of the brightest stars of those years was the pert, smart eager Carla, from Hampshire. She took my costume design classes- and was excellent, of course. Even better, I "advised" her for her Division 3 final project . She needed no advice to envision, plan and create this remarkable exhibit. I have two copies of the catalog she produced for the exhibit. I have shown it to other students over the years as an example of fine work. I would happily send one to the family if they do not have one.
A few years ago I wrote her to see what interesting work she would be doing. She sent me two books by her father that are of course prominent in my office library, too.
What a star. What a loss. My sincere condolences to her family.

Steven and I always enjoyed Carla. We knew Carla through mutual friends and we admired her because of her smart, funny, vivacious personality! She was smart, beautiful, and loyal to her loved ones. We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Max, Bill, her family and friends.
