CATERINA NAVARRA Obituary

NAVARRA--Caterina. "Sicily's Granny", Dies at Age 108. Caterina Navarra passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2023 at the venerable age of 108. She would have blown out her 109 candles on January 15th. She was one of the oldest people to have lived in Italy. She was a symbol of strength and hope to her community. Caterina Navarra was from Castellammare del Golfo, in the Trapani area. She was married to the late Vincenzo Fontana, and the mother of three successful sons: Antonio, Benedetto, and Frank Fontana. All three sons immigrated to Brooklyn from Italy, where they found success in both the Original Pizzeria franchise and as real estate investors. Caterina is also survived by six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her family sends a special thank you to her devoted son, Antonio Fontana. He took care of her for many years and sacrificed so much. Her family will always remember her strength, business- acumen, and love of cooking which inspired her three son's successes in the restaurant industry.
