CHARLES MOSS Obituary

MOSS--Charles B., Jr., ("Charley"), born August 29, 1944, in New York City, passed away September 1, 2025, in New York City, at age 81. A third-generation entertainment and real estate entrepreneur, Charley was the grandson of vaudeville and movie theater impresario, B.S. Moss, and the son of Charles B. Moss, Sr. He followed his family legacy by producing feature films and Broadway shows in the 1970s and 1980s, operating New York's largest independent movie theater circuit, B.S. Moss Theatres (later Bow Tie Cinemas), owning and operating a western states broadcasting company, and co- founding Bow Tie Partners with his son, Ben, in 1998. Known for his modesty, Charley often described his career simply as "the boring part", though his life's work was anything but. Charley earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and completed executive education at Harvard Business School. A dedicated community leader and philanthropist, he served at various times as president of Variety, The Children's Charity (New York chapter), president of the American Friends of the Toronto International Film Festival, trustee of Rye Country Day School, fundraiser and supporter of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and trustee of the Moss Family Foundation. He was a member of the former New York Friars Club, the former City Athletic Club, Maroon Creek Club in Aspen, the Harvard Club of New York, and the Penn Club of New York. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Cook; son Charles B. Moss III ("Ben") and wife Ellen-Jane; daughter Elizabeth H. Moss and husband Keith Ohrberg; grandchildren Harrison, Jack, and Elias; former wife, Robin Heller Moss; and extended family, Dana and Andy Stone and their children, Jessica and Zach. Funeral Service will be held at Frank E. Campbell-The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue, New York, New York 10028 (at the corner of 81st Street) on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 10:00am. My condolences to the Moss family. I was fortunate to cross paths with Charley at many Variety Clubs charity events in NYC. It was an honor to have known him. He will be missed.
