Im very sad to hear of Chas Phillips passing. I was introduced to him by Steve Siegel, his lifelong friend but had known about him from his reputation on Wall St at Morgan Stanley. He was a most well respected businessman and his success was renowned. I was in awe of his humility given his status on the street. He loved the game of tennis and he was loved by everyone he met across the net (not easy in this sport). I know he suffered toward the end and am glad hes been released. Am sure hes hitting those smooth ground strokes up in heaven. God Bless You Chas. ❤

Yesterday Chas Phillips died.
He was a huge tennis patron. A major supporter of Harvard tennis.
He funded several years of Kirk Moritzs tournaments at East River/Fila Club
He was a member and the tennis chair of the exclusive River Club in Manhattan.
He arranged for many Long Island players to have access to practice on the grass at Piping Rock.
He had a beautiful game, better strokes than many of the best players.
His level of self deprecation was off the charts.
He was an enormously successful businessman who, with his business partner created the mergers and acquisitions department at Morgan Stanley, brokering some of the largest mergers in history.
All of this pales in comparison to the person who he always was.
His humility was extraordinary considering what he had accomplished in his life.
His love for his family was unbounded.
A friend like no other. Those of us who knew him felt, in his presence, that he was the best friend you could ever have.
He had an ability to make those in his presence feel that they were the most amazing person in the whole world.
If you looked up the word edifier in the dictionary you wouldnt be surprised to see his name. A person who builds up others. This is an under exaggeration for his ability to do this.
Personally Chas believed in me like no other person I have ever met and that support helped to grow in tennis, business and life.
He learned, lived and taught how to live a good life.
He helped so many through charity, but even more often with words that made one know that they could do more, bigger, better.
Sometimes all it takes is a spark, someone to see in you something you don't see in yourself to create a raging fire.
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.
The universe has lost a brilliant star.
Chas you will be missed by many.

Chas will be forever missed by his tennis friends. For many of us he is the definition of a friend. He loved the game and the people he met in the game. He was generous with support for the game and did many things with no fanfare or self-promotion. I am lucky to have known him. My sincere condolences to all of his loved ones.
