RANAWAT--Chitranjan, MD. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) community, we extend our deepest sympathy on the passing of Dr. Chitranjan Ranawat, a visionary leader and esteemed member of our community. His legacy as a pioneer in orthopedic surgery has left a profound and lasting impact on our institution and on the field of joint replacement surgery. His career spanning more than five decades was marked by extraordinary innovation, dedication and global impact. Dr. Ranawat played a leading role in the design and development of modern knee and hip replacement implants that have improved the lives of millions of patients worldwide. He was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from HSS, as well as numerous distinctions from other organizations. He will be remembered for the skill and compassion he showed his patients; the exceptional philanthropic contributions he made to improve lives around the world; and the inspirational mentorship he provided to countless medical students, orthopedic residents and fellows. His legacy continues through his wife, Gudrun; his sons, Dr. Amar S. Ranawat and Dr. Anil S. Ranawat, both distinguished surgeons at HSS; his daughter, Karen; their spouses; and his 11 grandchildren.
