CLAYTON MORRIS

1946 - 2022

MORRIS--The Rev. Dr. Clayton L., died at his home in Brooklyn, NY, on Monday, October 24, 2022. He was born on June 23, 1946, in Junction City, OR to William and Betty Rasmussen Morris. He attended Junction City High School, Willamette University, and Church Divinity School of the Pacific, where he received his MDiv and ThD. He married Mary Pacquer at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle in 1968. Clay was Assistant at St. Andrew's Church in Saratoga, CA, Rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in King City, CA, and worked at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland, CA and All Soul's Berkeley, CA, before moving to Palo Alto, CA to be Musical Director and Associate at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He was then called to work at the Episcopal Church Center in New York, NY, founding the office of Liturgy and Music for the National Episcopal Church, where he worked until he retired. He was a member of Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Music, Empire City Men's Chorus, and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in New York, NY. Clay leaves a loving family: his daughter Andrea Cohen (Daniel Cohen), son Jonathan Morris (Gena Walker Morris), five beautiful grandchildren: Amanda Cohen, Danielle Cohen, Kaden Morris, Ryder Morris, and Quentin Morris. He was predeceased by his parents. He is also survived by his sister, Elsa Hawley (Brian), and his ex-wife, Mary Morris.
