CLIFF GOODWIN Obituary

GOODWIN--Cliff. 1936-2012. Cliff Goodwin, was born April 21, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended St. Martin's College in Washington State. Moving to New York, he played major roles in daytime TV and in theater. In the late sixties he became the Program Director for the New Dramatists, Inc. Goodwin developed an informal pool of young, unknown New York actors who donated their talents to these productions. Among them were Al Pacino, Gloria Foster, Christopher Walken, Clarence Williams III, Robert DeNiro, James Earl Jones, Jill Clayburgh, John Travolta, Linda Lavin, and Bette Midler. Subsequently, he toured small-town America for the National Endowment for the Humanities' National Humanities Series. Goodwin was an artist-in-residence at colleges and universities throughout the U.S. In recent years Goodwin conducted private classes in Shakespearean acting and audition techniques. He lived most of his adult life in his beloved Greenwich Village. For the last year he struggled with acute leukemia, finally succumbing to it on October 8. He is survived by his son, Michael; his sister, Pat Norry; his twin brother Fred; and his younger brothers Bob and Jim. A memorial service is being planned for Friday, January 25, at 2pm, to be held at New Dramatists, 424 W. 44th Street. Please email: Goodwinmemorialservice@ gmail.com for details.

My sympathy to the family and friends of Cliff Goodwin, I was a part of his "checkered high school " past in his jr. year at Saint.
Anthony HS in Brookland, Wash., DC. Cliff was witty and wry and
definitely marched to a different drummer! Peace! Patricia Keegan Grigsby
