Daniel Dolgin Obituary

DOLGIN, DANIEL L. died February 28, 2022. He was co-founder of the national non-profit, PowerMyLearning (formerly Computers for Youth). The organization was born from Dan's vision in the 1990s of using home computers to facilitate children's learning and lessen the divide between the haves and have nots. He met Elisabeth Stock after she completed her White House Fellowship in 1998 and the two joined forces, with Dan serving as Board Chair and Elisabeth as Executive Director. During the first year of operations, the organization ran family workshops at a partner school in the Bronx, and Dan was on-site every weekend lending a hand and building relationship with school staff, students, and their families. Within a decade, the organization was working in cities across the country. It was during this period that the organization had a critical insight – strengthening the alliance between families and teachers in support of student learning could have a significant impact on student outcomes. The organization now works across the country offering programs and software to activate the triangle of learning relationships between teachers, students, and their families. In 2020, Dan and his treasured wife Loraine Gardner were awarded PowerMyLearning's Visionary of the Year for their many contributions to the organization. Dan will be remembered for making a difference in countless lives and approaching everything he did with smarts, generosity, care, and love. He was a key catalyst for a new non-profit that has had national impact, and, just as importantly, was a mentor, friend, and "part of the family" for so many staff at PowerMyLearning.
