Daniel Schaum Obituary

SCHAUM--Daniel, on August 22, 2008. Beloved husband of Rose; caring father of Michael and Iris, and Ellen and Henry Korn; loving grandfather of David, Gregory, Andrew and Joanna; compassionate brother of Sara. Founder and publisher of the best-selling Schaum's Outline Series, now owned by McGraw Hill. An exceptional man who will be remembered. The service is today, August 25, 12:45pm at "The Riverside," 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave.

I never met Mr. Schaum, but I used the books of the Schaum's Outline Series for many years as an undergraduate and graduate student in Mathematics. A freshman calculus teacher recommended these books, and the rest is history! I am very grateful for Mr. Schaum and his vision to originate this series. The series was the first of its kind and is still number 1 for me and countless others.

We met Dan and Rose at Grossingers 24 years ago and consider them family to us all. Dan was the older brother we never had, the kindest and smartest man we ever knew. He was always so dear to us, generous and hospitable and a wonderful friend to us and our children. He loved to see our son act and was a warm and loving supporter of all our work. We miss him so much but are grateful we had so many good times together...Cafe Greco especially! The angels are lucky tonight...Dan is there to teach and delight them.

DANIEL,A WONDERFUL FRIEND OF OUR FAMILY, WAS MY 1ST EMPLOYER AFTER HIGH SCHOOL IN SUMMER 1961,HE HAD A HEART TO UNDERSTAND AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THE POTENTIAL FOR GREATNESS IN PEOPLE AND BRING SUCH INTO THE LIGHT. HE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND WAS AN EXTREMELY KIND PERSON OF EXCEPTIONAL CHARACTER AND A PLAYFUL SERIOUS JOYFULNESS.
