DAVENPORT PLUMER Obituary

PLUMER--Davenport "Mike" III, EdD. A consummate educator, Mike died at 89 after a brief illness. He dedicated his life to the art of teaching; Vice-President for Development at the New York Institute of Technology; on the faculty of the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and as an English teacher at the Belmont Hill School. Living the past forty years in Huntington, NY, he was Co-Chair of the Board at the Cinema Arts Centre. A talented poet, he was a weekly participant at the Long Island Poetry Collective. Mike liked to say he was always "writing a poem" in his head. He also played excellent, graceful tennis with a dedicated band of all-weather brothers. He raised money and interviewed candidates for his alma mater, Dartmouth College. Mike Plumer had an outstanding spirit of kindness, respect, and a desire to improve the lives of those he met. He is survived by a loving family of five adult children, a beloved wife, and three grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be planned for the early summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Cinema Arts Centre, Huntington, NY.

Our Dad, Mike Plumer, had the most remarkable, full life. We were lucky to have the time we did with him. At 89 he had accomplished so much, both for himself and those around him. He will forever be an inspiration to me and a model for a life well lived. He will be deeply missed by many. His spirit lives on in those who knew him.
