DAVID BROWN Obituary

BROWN--David W. The partners, counsel, associates and staff of the firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP express profound sorrow at the loss of our beloved friend and partner David W. Brown, who passed away on October 15, 2022, at the age of 47. Dave was a brilliant lawyer, respected and admired by everyone within the firm. Dave graduated from Harvard College ('97) and Harvard Law School ('00), where he served as Notes Editor of the Harvard Law Review. Dave first joined Paul, Weiss as a summer associate in 1999 and returned to the firm's Litigation Department in the fall of 2001, following his clerkship on the D.C. Circuit. Dave was elected as a partner in October 2008. Dave's career at the firm was extraordinary. He handled some of the highest-stakes litigations and most sensitive, high-profile investigative matters for the firm's most important clients, and was recognized repeatedly for his extraordinary accomplishments. Dave was named to The National Law Journal's inaugural "Minority 40 Under 40 List" in 2011; to the New York Law Journal's "Rising Stars" list in 2013; and to the Crain's New York Business' prestigious "40 Under 40" list in 2014. Dave was a champion for social justice and fought to improve the criminal justice system. He dedicated thousands of hours of pro bono work on behalf of incarcerated clients. Dave was extraordinarily engaged in the community, serving on the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Harlem Link Charter School and the Council of Urban Professionals. During Mayor Bloomberg's administration, Dave served on NYC's Panel for Educational Policy. Dave and his wife Claire were active supporters of Village Health Works, a joint Burundi-based nonprofit with a mission of providing quality, compassionate health care in Burundi. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Village Health Works. We extend heartfelt condolences to Dave's wife, Claire Evans; their newborn child, Fiona; his mother, Monika Brown; his father, Wycliffe Brown; his three brothers, Michael Brown, Wycliffe Brown and Paul Brown; and his sister, Maureen Brown. Partners, friends and colleagues recall Dave's many acts of kindness, his empathy, his passion for justice and his devotion to his family. Dave was a leader of our community and stood up for what was right and just. He reflected the very best values of our firm.

Deogratias (Deo) Niyizonkiza & Family

October 21, 2022

Dearest beloved brother Dave,
Your awfully unexpected passing at such a young age is so shocking and so cruel to me and my family as it surely is for everyone who was lucky and privileged to know you.
You will forever be in our hearts my brother. I already miss and will always miss dearly your extraordinarily beautiful smiles and laughters, our conversations and hikes together in Burundi. There simply is no word to describe the heaviness in my heart as I write you these words. Rest in peace bother- until we see each other again. Love - Deo and family.

Dave, I know you see this. You see much more than ever before as an incarnated being. Brother, you were always such a great, fun-loving, and wise friend. You'll always be remembered. Your legacy lives on. I hope your family is able to navigate this difficult time in your physical absence. But your spirit/soul lives on. Always. <3
