Dave was my first boss in G&G Variety. He was a great man and taught me many things. It was my first job as stock boy working under his manager Mr Foster. I was 16 and got to meet Janice when she spent time at the store when school was out. She was a great friend. My wife and I are married 57 years and remember G &G. We lived on East 18 st. I know it's late but we lost contact and wanted to send our condolences for a man that meant a lot to me growing up. Thank you Dave.

Sitting here thinking about my mother's birthday today (Judy Wieder) and my father Alfred I was reminiscing through some old photos and articles my father kept.
My folks were very fond of Irma and Dave and spent many, many years together. I remember Dave's laugh and fun spirit. He and my father always seemed to have a good time together.

Glancing through the obits in the NYT, I saw Dave's name; it couldn't be. Then I read it. I worked for Dave; he gave me my first job on 8/8/68. I loved working in the 5 and 10! When my own father died in 1996 I went back to Bklyn. to that neighborhood and G and G was gone, much to my sadness. It was a throwback to an earlier time.
Dave was very kind to me and lots of fun. I think he liked working with us kids. I remember Mr. and Mrs. Foster, Irma, the boy who must be your oldest grandson and Howard! I remember that Dave's brother used to come to the store and complain that Dave hadn't put in godolas.
I worked with Barry, Janet, Vee in cosmetics, Emily in notions, made Easter baskets with Mrs. Foster, cleaned out the flower pots and revived the dead plants behind the store. We had Bing Crosby singing at Xmas time and zoris out front in the summer. We had 15 cent books. I have plenty of memories and stories. Oh, Inez. She came in in the morning.
Anyhow, I loved working for your dad. We used to date his coffee cups that he left around the store. He let me mark the bills PAID and let me take off one summer to work in a bank. We used to get paid in little brown envelopes. It was a hoot! Good-bye, Dave, and thank you. It was my gift to have had you in my life.

He was a kind and loving and good humored and completely human human being. There is no day that goes by he is not in my thoughts and prayers. I am blessed to have known him.

I remember a bit of marquetry in the den on Reynolds Dr.: A bowling ball and scattered pins. Met a few times and he always treated me well. Sorry for your loss. He was a gent.
