DAVID MILBERG Obituary

MILBERG--David. David Jonathan Milberg, 59, passed away in his home on July 4, 2023, after a brief illness. He will always be remembered as a loving (and beloved) father, son, brother, and friend, with a remarkable intellect, a gentle soul, a beautiful voice, and a lifelong passion for business and theater. David was born on October 10, 1963 in New York City to Leonard and Ellen Milberg (nee Gordon). Raised in Rye, NY, he graduated from the Horace Mann School and went on to study at Princeton University. At Princeton, David immersed himself in all things theater: he acted in and directed several plays; he performed in musicals with the famed Triangle Club; he sang a cappella with the Nassoons; and his senior thesis for the history department researched the Provincetown Players theater group. After graduating from Princeton in 1986, David explored various jobs in theater, advertising, and finance, before settling into his first permanent job at Bankers Trust Company. David later graduated with an MBA from Columbia University, where he made the Dean's list all four semesters, was named to the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society, and received the NYSSCPA accounting prize. After graduating from Columbia, David became a Vice President at Lehman Brothers. In 1995, David joined the family business, Milberg Factors, Inc., a factoring and commercial finance firm begun by David's grandfather in 1936. For more than 25 years, David, his father Leonard, and his brother Dan would usher Milberg Factors into the modern era as the premier factoring business in the United States. David later combined his passions for theater and business by investing in many Broadway productions and lending his expertise to the boards of several theater organizations. David also sang with and adored the Amor Artis chamber chorus. Above all his many professional and artistic accomplishments, David's children were the loves of his life. He reveled in their personalities, activities, and achievements. Forever proud of them, he would always tout them as his "greatest accomplishments." David is survived by his children, Beverly, Ava, and Emmett Milberg; his parents, Leonard and Ellen Milberg; his siblings, Dan Milberg (Margot) and Sandra Milberg Shapiro; and dozens of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Private services for the family will be held this week, with plans for a larger memorial service to follow.

I worked as a Secretary for Len Milberg and Joe Golden in the early 80´s. Both treated me very kindly. Fond memories of MFI drove me to a google search and I stumbled upon the impressive history and then this unexpected and heartbreaking obituary. I wanted to extend my most sincere condolences to the entire Milberg family. My prayers are with you all.
Sincerely, Donna Joannou-Kunzig

I met David in the early eighties when he became my brother's housemate in Park Slope. Three nice Jewish boys sharing an apartment in our twenties at the onset of our adult lives, I'll always remember the good times we had just sitting around the house or going out and about in the neighborhood and the city. David eventually got his own place but came back for a party my brother and I gave. It was a great party and I prevailed upon David to hang around after everyone left to shoot the breeze and help us straighten up. The friends who stay around when the party is over, that's what you'll treasure most. RIP Davey.

David was a friend at Princeton and in New York. He came to my orchestra concerts and I heard him sing with Amor Artis. We enjoyed numerous shows and dinners.
