DAVID REDDEN Obituary

REDDEN--David Normand, of New York City and Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, beloved husband of Jeannette, proud father of Stephen and Clare, son of Normand Redden of Norwich, NY and Annabel Austin Redden of Christchurch, New Zealand, brother of Nigel Redden and Melanie Redden Whitlock, at home in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, (May 11th) of complications from ALS, which he had survived for nine years. For 42 years he worked at Sotheby's, the last 16 as a vice chairman; and was the longest serving auctioneer in Sotheby's history. He organized many of Sotheby's most famous sales. He also served as chairman of many cultural, educational and environmental organizations, including Scenic Hudson, Black Rock Forest, the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, The Olana Partnership, the American Trust for the British Library and St. Stephen's School in Rome. He served as president of the 11 East 73rd Street board. He was a dedicated diarist, and in 2020 he donated his auction papers to the Getty Research Institute.

So many good memories of the 1980s with David Redden, a dynamic auctioneer who led Sotheby´s with intelligence, humor and a huge depth of knowledge. They don´t make guys like DR anymore... a Renaissance Man. Sincere condolences to his family. Betsy Huber Port
