DEBRA KLETTER Obituary

KLETTER--Debra J. passed away of an undetermined cause on April 3rd, 2020, her 66th birthday. Debra studied lighting at the University of Wisconsin. She became a lighting designer for many New York shows and assisted dear friend and director Norman Rene on the films Prelude to a Kiss, Reckless and longtime Companion. Debra founded Eatquest, an international restaurant recommendation service in order to share her passion for food. For Deb, food, like life, was about community. She was a friend to all, loyal to a fault and connoisseur of the world. She is survived by her loving family and her broad network of friends.

Not a day has gone by since April 3,2020 that I haven't thought of you, wanted to hear your voice. Sometimes I lie to myself and pretend you're in an exotic location without internet.
I think you've sent messages when on certain days I meet beautiful dogs named Blue or The Human League is on my car radio. You're in my dreams... you are always in my heart. I still cannot believe you're not on 22nd street.
All my love to you, Norman, Brad and Tory.I miss you all so damn much.

I was fortunate enough to hear about Debra and on Alec Baldwin's podcast. We, as a family of 4, had visited NYC the year before and had a mediocre experience with restaurants. She changed all that for us in the summer of 2019. We still talk about the restaurants quite often and how she made a difference! I was looking to see if she could make more recommendations since we are finally traveling again and was crestfallen to hear of her passing. She was so very very sweet and gave me more recommendations than we contracted for. Because of her, our kids fell in love with the city and I am forever grateful!

I was a classmate of Deborah’s at University of Wisconsin. I lost touch with her. Today on a whim , decided to google her whereabouts. I’m so saddened to hear of her passing. She was a gentle soul who was kind to everyone. She will certainly be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

My dear friend, you will be missed by all. You've been a constant in my life for so long, it's hard to imagine you not here. Wherever you are, think of us. We will keep you in our hearts, and in our friendship remain with you.

I never met Debra, but we had known each other "virtually" via Instagram since 2018. She sent me to some amazing restaurants in New York and Dubai, and gave me the chance to recommend a restaurant here in Toronto for one of her celebrity clients. What a vibrant woman. I am very upset today. My heart goes out to her friends and family

Very sorry to read this. Her work on Longtime Companion, a cherished film about early AIDS, will long be remembered.
